The Directorate General for Agriculture has published the report “Short-term outlook for EU arable crops, dairy and meat markets”. The paper argues that ”The high level of EU production combined with a good world harvest and decreasing oil prices results in lower white sugar prices, at 433 EUR/t in December 2014”. For 2015/2016 the report expects a 5% decrease in sugar beet area and sugar production to fall by 15% because of an assumed lower yield. Imports are estimated to increase again to historic levels from low 2014/15 levels when sugar prices will recover a bit. Exports are assumed to be stable for 2015/2016.
